    The product is fine and what you'd expect for a blu ray combo package.

    The Movie
    I'm a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). My favorite is the first Avengers (2012) movie created with Joss Whedon's help. Others near the top of my list in the MCU are Iron Man, Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy (1 & 2), and Spider-Man: Homecoming. In dead last for me is Captain America: Winter Soldier, followed closely by Captain America: Civil War. Terrible plots; cheesy ways to get us to special effects bonanzas; no real tribute to the source materials for Civil War; and there was zero tension in Winter Soldier because the threats weren't really threats. It's like the characters were acting tense and concerned, but the stuff the writers put together to be the concern was just not good enough. So, hopefully that gives you an idea of my taste and ways of thinking, to help you understand my review of Captain Marvel.

    I really like the movie... which is why I gave it 5 out of 5 stars. It was a really good intro story for a character that is spunky and easy to cheer for. So, if all you're curious about is whether it's a good movie, I heartily approve and recommend it. But if you want to know a bit more about how it fits into the MCU...

    How it fits into the MCU
    If you consider that Captain Marvel was introduced between "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame", it doesn't make sense. Really, Captain Marvel should have been introduced before both of those movies and she should have been involved in the Infinity War. It's my opinion, but I think I have pretty good reason for it. The character Ronin was involved in trying to retrieve one of the infinity stones for Thanos. Ronin is one of the big bad guys for Captain Marvel. I'm having a hard time believing Captain Marvel was unaware of Thanos as a threat, and that makes it weird that she wasn't even remotely involved in the Infinity War. She didn't try to stop him? She can wipe out fleets of warships in space in a matter of seconds... so really... what else is going on that's as important as the infinity stones?

    Then Endgame comes along and Nick Fury finally sends the message to Captain Marvel. And THAT'S what gets her interest? She drops everything for a page from Nick Fury, but Thanos is spending time gathering infinity stones with help from her enemies, and Captain Marvel does nothing? Just weird. And then to make matters worse, Captain Marvel barely has any impact on Endgame. She shows up to blow up some more ships and to the take part in the chain of people trying to get the stone back to their original times... but somehow loses to Thanos who has none of the stones this time around. Captain America alone stood up to Thanos while he had 5 of the 6 stones at the end of Infinity War. But somehow Thanos with no stones can handle Captain Marvel. And Captain America with Mjolnir while he has Iron Man and Thor there fighting too. Not only is Captain Marvel's appearance in Endgame pathetic, but the consistency of power of characters so far off that it's off-putting.

    What that means is that it feels like Captain Marvel was introduced at the wrong time... just sort of stuck into the middle of a big story. And then she was surprisingly under-used. They hurried to introduce her, and then didn't use her.

    Conclusion
    Captain Marvel is a really good movie. The way it's woven into the rest of the MCU is surprising and disappointing. But definitely buy this movie if you like the MCU movies.

    There's a lot to say about this and despite it all I still don't understand the hate towards his film. Like seriously none of it makes sense and a lot of it is derived from either high expectations or certain expectations assuming a first-time film for a character should be at the same level as an avengers film or just the hate for Brie Larson which I genuinely don't like at all as an excuse. Now I'm not going to say this is my favorite Marvel movie but I do genuinely like the film so this was something I've been hoping to get for a good while along with the rest of the MCU collection. I will say that it's sequel I find a lot more appealing in comparison but regardless of any of those circumstances I still like this film and I don't think it's one of the worst MCU films so I'm happy to have this with the rest of the films.

    Finally, a Marvel feature that ties into the current Infinity War saga where the actor playing the lead role is not a bigger star than the character they're portraying. Granted most of them were lesser-known in their first go-rounds, but it's been 10 years, and pretty much everyone else is a "Big Star" at this point because of it. A more-known actor in this role would have taken away from the character.

    Brie Larson does a fine job of presenting the character, both in her "insecure/confused/directionless" form and in her "Ok, now I get it" form. The story does seem to move along at a fairly accelerated pace, however, like they're in a hurry to get to the post-credit tie-in to Endgame. Everyone's a bit too accepting of things as they happen; space aliens from space aren't the "freak-out" moment you'd expect (at least after the car crash - after that, Nick takes everything else in stride, like going into outer freaking space for the first time ever).
    Then again, 15 minutes on the "wait, hold on, I'm shocked and need to process all this" is annoying to watch. It does give one time to hit the lobby, or the restroom, however.

    There are also a couple of scenes where the CGI could have been a lot better (Vers walking up the steps to the Supreme Intelligence, and the ending where she blasts off into hyperspace seemed poorly posed and hand-animated, rather than mocapped).

    I did enjoy the "blast from the past" computer technology. Pre-Google search engines, CDs that take 60 seconds or more to load, dial-up modems that dropped connection.

    Another reviewer lamented the fact that she didn't beat down the bad guys with her bare knuckles, as if that tired, old, cliche` was still valid in the 21st century, but instead used her Phenomenal Cosmic Power to completely dominate her opponent (admittedly at the end of the film). In my personal experience, the only way to defeat an opponent is soundly, and to answer their attacks with 10 times the retribution. It guarantees they won't be in any sort of rush to come at you again. So, I was glad to see a super-powered hero laying it on the bad guy 5 layers deep. What's the point of having Phenomenal Cosmic Power if you're not using it full-blast? Good old fashioned John Wayne saloon brawling is passe`, even in real life, and we've seen enough Kung Fu Fighting (which is apparently the universal language of close-quarters combat).

    I did have issues with the technical side of things, such as the poorly animated scenes mentioned earlier, as well as the Skrull makeup and prosthesis affecting the actors' speech. It seemed like someone wearing makeup and prosthesis, not an actual alien race. Granted, the big bulky plastic Iron Man suit from the first one 10 years ago was fine when the budgets were low and no one knew it was going to be a hit, but spend more of those billions in profit on making a better movie. Even the Captain Marvel jumpsuit looked like something from an Army Surplus store with a few knick-knacks stuck to it.
    And don't get me started on how the calendar shows it's June and they're in South Louisiana and no one's sweating their butts off just from breathing.
    And then there's the fact that Fury's radio kept its signal while passing through a tunnel, but advanced alien comms had trouble in fog.
    It seems all the money was spent on making Samuel L. Jackson look 30 years younger.

    But, it's still not a bad movie, it's just technically flawed. The acting and the action are solid, and of course the primary focus of the film. We're not supposed to get emotionally attached to Carol Danvers, because really she's a supporting character to the Avengers. The comic book didn't stand the test of time, what with the various changes over the decades, so don't expect this movie to be "Captain Marvel 1" in expectation of a sequel, or a series. At best, something would happen to introduce Photon, but even then, that'd just be gratuitous and cliche`.
