The Sexy Box Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Brian Orndorf January 25, 2022
To celebrate(?) the early years of Troma Entertainment, the company issues “The Sexy Box,” which contains features created before the shift to
harder, more violent endeavors that helped to shape cult appeal. Included in the set are 1981’s “Waitress,” 1982’s “Stuck on You,” and 1983’s “The
First Turn-On,” giving fans raised on “The Toxic Avenger” a different appreciation for Troma’s DIY ways, establishing their mischief in the world of
sexploitation.

Waitress
Listed on the back cover are "In the Kitchen" interviews and "Foodporn" photo gallery, but these supplements aren't included on the disc.
- Intro (1:42, HD) finds Troma Entertainment honcho Lloyd Kaufman in the bushes, sharing a few details about "Waitress,"
jokingly referring to it as the prequel to "My Dinner with Andre."
- Commentary features writer/director Lloyd Kaufman.
- "Before There Was Toxie" (1:57, SD) is an old intro from Lloyd Kaufman, who stands in front of Troma Entertainment
headquarters to provide some tidbits from the "Waitress" shoot, including overnight work hours and cameos from Larry "Bud" Melman and Chris
Noth.
During this short clip, viewers are offered a chance to see Kaufman in director mode, cursing out the cameraperson when they make a few mistakes.
- "Gizzard Face" (1:00, HD) is a promotional clip for the Troma Now! streaming service.
- And a Theatrical Trailer (3:05, SD) is included.
Stuck on You
Listed on the back cover are "Adhesive Interviews with Troma's Alumni" and "Pin Up Photo Gallery," but these supplements aren't included on the
disc.
- Intro (1:41, HD) returns to Troma Entertainment honcho Lloyd Kaufman in the bushes, where he declares "Stuck on You"
the company's best comedy and discusses how poorly the palimony plot has aged.
- Commentary features co-writer/director Lloyd Kaufman.
- "Jealous of Troma Now" (1:10, HD) is a short commercial for Lloyd Kaufman's streaming service.
- And a Theatrical Trailer (3:55, SD) is included.
The First Turn-On
Listed on the back cover is "The Naked Truth About Troma's Flashbacks with Troma's Early Stars," but this supplement isn't included on the disc.
- Intro (1:37, HD) pays a visit to Troma Entertainment honcho Lloyd Kaufman, reporting from his COVID-19 bunker (which
appears to be his house). Kaufman welcomes viewers to "The First Turn-On" Blu-ray, noting the film came "way before" Toxie (it didn't), and he
points
out an appearance from Vincent D'Onofrio.
- Commentary features co-writer/director Lloyd Kaufman.
- Interview (8:05, HD) is a 2019 chat with actress Shelia Kennedy, who recalls her initial casting for "The First Turn-On."
She
details her favorite parts of the shoot, recalling the making of her sex scene, which occurred in the middle of the morning, with Lloyd Kaufman
barking
orders to make the whole thing livelier. Kennedy also recalls her sudden audition for 1984's "Ellie," with producers offering her the lead role, even
though she was an acting novice. The part pleased her mother, who was traumatized by Kennedy's time with Penthouse Magazine, glad to see her
daughter doing more respectable work.
- And a Trailer (3:22, SD) is included.
The Sexy Box Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

"The Sexy Box" is crippled by Troma's disappointing A/V offerings and limp supplements (promising more than they deliver), and while Lloyd Kaufman
endlessly trumpets the company's independent ways, he should really look into hiring seasoned professionals when it comes to releasing his back
catalog on Blu-ray.
