Knowledge of the future is the most valuable commodity on Earth but is the most difficult to attain. Whether for opportunities for personal gain or to simply help steer a life, a family, a community, a nation...the world...in the right direction, towards peace and prosperity and away from poverty and destruction, its value far exceeds any price. But there is a concept that the future has already been written in the Bible, that there is but one course for the world to take en route to ushering in new eras as foretold centuries ago. The Coming Convergence seeks to unearth the future in the prism of the past, and through the events of the present, to paint a picture of what's to come, as it has been written and as it continues to unfold in the headlines.

The film’s focus is not on broad generalization prophecy but rather Biblical specifics and “eschatology,” the science behind and study of Biblical prophecy. The film explores Israel’s rebirth following World War II, which according to some scholars has signaled the beginning of the end times to be completed in a generation, defined here as a human lifespan. The film looks at the “final prophesies” within the Bible that report on what is to come, including global warfare with emphasis on the predicted one-day conflict in which Iran, Syria, Libya, and Russia come together to attack Israel. It looks at the prophesy that Damascus will cease to exist, prophesies concerning the worldwide economy, and predictions of disastrous natural calamities. The film follows with discussions of the rise of a single world government and the population’s cry out for unified leadership in turmoil. Finally, the film reveals the purpose behind God’s revelations in the Bible.

The film partly explores the end days through a young girl’s perspective, the prophecies and signs she witnessed but ignored. She walks through a ruined structure, laced with graffiti and covered in decay. Her story warns of blissful ignorance, choosing the ways of the world over the predictions of death and destruction. But the film is primarily concerned with revealing Biblical prophesy and how it’s playing out today, particularly as various examples of prophesy have begun to come true, notably how in 1948 Israel was formed by the United Nations. But most of the rest of the predictions have yet to fully come to fruition, hence the title “The Coming Convergence. The film shows examples of how man and nature both seem to be on a collision course with Biblical prophesy, claiming that all will converge in short order. And with the world in such tumultuous upheaval in 2020, only three years removed from this film’s release, one can only wonder if these are indeed the times prophesied in Scripture.

To build its case, the film offers several examples of the Bible’s prophetic accuracy, including the destruction of the city of Tyre; the foretelling of Christ’s life, crucifixion, and resurrection; and Israel’s distant and recent history. It offers some fascinating perspectives on prophesy, including what the film purports to be the true context of one of Christ’s most famous utterances that “nobody knows the day or the hour.” The film is engaging and moves quickly through its forecasted coming events, relentlessly giving life to prophesy and offering convincing examples that, indeed, the world is converging to a turning point unlike anything ever seen before but written of thousands of years ago in the Bible.

The Coming Convergence Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality 

The Coming Convergence was shot digitally, and at a lower grade than more resplendent, and costly, Hollywood productions. The image has also been cobbled together with footage of various qualities and sources which yield a fairly unevenly distributed feel for overall quality to the image. In the picture's defense it's not about spectacle but rather sharing information, so in that regard, and considering the quality of sources beyond the filmmakers' control, the presentation is certainly passable. But do expect to find a myriad of issues throughout: macroblocking, banding, aliasing, jagged edges, and noise. All of these can be found in both the footage created specifically for the movie -- interview segments and scenes of the girl roaming about the dilapidated structure in the post-apocalyptic near future -- as well as the archival footage that is prevalent throughout. The newly created footage generally fares best, though certainly doesn't soar. Essential textures-- faces, clothes, the war-raved structure -- enjoy good basic details that benefit from the 1080p resolution but never prove so striking as to be notable in the 2020 (or 2017 when the disc was first released) video quality landscape. Viewers will note good core textures but little of real tactile depth. Colors fare well enough; the girl's white headscarf and the graffiti on walls nicely separate from the ashen, dusty rubble. Skin tones on the various interviewees are fine, but black levels do look pasty and raised throughout.

The Coming Convergence Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality 

The Coming Convergence brings together but two speakers in this rather paltry Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack. There's a harsh edge to narration to open the movie. It pushes a bit to the sides rather than focus in the center. Fortunately, the core interview components and the larger narrative landscape present with more stable clarity and front-center location. The track offers little more. Some basic music and sound effects, the latter often simply culled from archival footage, help set the stage but offer little of sonic value beyond shaping the scene. This is a nuts-and-bolts track if there ever was one.

The Coming Convergence Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

This Blu-ray release of The Coming Convergence contains only one supplement, a trailer for Decoding the Future (a paper insert advertising that series is also included). A DVD copy of the film is included with purchase, but a digital code is not. This release does not appear to ship with a slipcover.

The Coming Convergence Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

The Coming Convergence released in 2017, and only three years later the world has seemingly reached another pivot point that may portend great change or that may ultimately become a footnote in history. Either way there seems to be renewed attention to end times prophesies and it's a good bet that more content like this will make its way to screens in the coming months and years. This particular film explores the end times through Biblical prophesy and makes a case that all of the key prophetic visions from the Old and New Testaments are playing out right now and that time is short before the second coming. The Blu-ray is featureless and the video and audio presentations are spotty at best. Recommended for the interesting narrative take on today's world and the Bible's vision of it.
