Star Trek: The Complete Original Series 60th Anniversary Blu-ray Movie Review

In celebration of its 60th anniversary, Paramount has released the original 'Star Trek' TV show to Blu-ray. The show has been released multiple times to Blu-ray over the years, both as standalone seasons and as massive full series collections; there are too many to link to individually, but this one remains my (non-SteelBook) favorite solely for the packaging aesthetics; it's also very similar to this release in terms of basic packaging parameters and disc content. So, this release is essentially the same thing, but with new artwork and anniversary branding. See below for a few words on and photos of the packaging.

Star Trek: The Complete Original Series 60th Anniversary Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras 

Paramount has once again returned to the Star Trek well for this 60th anniversary, repackaging old discs with anniversary branding. The slipcover and Blu-ray packaging share the same design: a Blu-ray banner across the top and a red-heavy background featuring the primary bridge crew -- Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Shura, Chekov, Sulu, and Scotty -- within the familiar Federation "A"-style insignia filling up much of the right side. The Enterprise is zooming through space closer to the top, and an embossed 60th anniversary logo appears bottom left. The rear panel prominently features the text "Six Decades. Infinite Worlds" followed by a show plot summary; a photo block with Spock, McCoy, and Kirk; and some other common miscellaneous items (billing block, tech specs, etc.). The spine is similar to the front in terms of color and design, with the show's title center but, curiously, no 60th anniversary branding; it seems to me that the top of the spine would have been a natural spot to place it.

Inside, all of the discs are included in the oversized Amaray case. Many are stacked and staggered, and as with my experience with these massive Paramount TV sets, several discs fell right out when I opened it. While the on-disc content is identical to every other TOS Blu-ray, they do include 60th anniversary branding on the discs. The inner print incudes disc-by-disc episode and bonus materials breakdowns.

Star Trek: The Complete Original Series 60th Anniversary Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation 

Well, it's the 60th anniversary of Star Trek, and aside from a fresh coat of exterior paint, this is just a rehash of previous releases. I can't imagine even super fans dropping money on this as a repeat buy just for the branding, but fresh buyers will enjoy it. Do note that there is another 60th anniversary release that comes with different artwork, lobby cards, and a mini vinyl record. That one is really pricey, but at least it comes with a few more things.
