If anyone is pressed for time, they may benefit by simply rereading my Panda Plan Blu-ray review from 2025 and port almost all of those comments over to this purported sequel, which perhaps more hilariously than anything in the film manages to somehow continue the implausible tale of Jackie Chan (more or less playing himself) protecting a rare panda named Hu Hu while working in plot machinations which are weirdly similar to those in Who Am I? 4K. In a way it's almost too on the nose that this film features interstitial animated vignettes, since it even more than its predecessor might be termed a "live action cartoon", and in fact this entire nascent "franchise" might have connected better as an animated feature.

The connection to Who Am I? comes courtesy of an "exotic tribe" Jackie gets involved with, though in this particular case it's little Hu Hu the panda rather than Jackie himself who is perceived to be some kind of Divinity. The tribe in this film is a supposedly "untouched" indigenous tribe that is secreted away in the jungle mists until, Brigadoon (and/or Schmigadoon!) style, Jackie is able to magically find it. The ensuing chaos involves several tribal members ranging from a (female) chief to various cartoonish underlings, with a Hero's Quest of sorts in store for Hu Hu in order to ostensibly save the tribe. It's completely silly and ridiculous, with a few scattered laughs but a lot of mugging, even by little CGI Hu Hu.

Panda Plan: The Magical Tribe is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Well Go USA with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.85:1. There's no real technical information on this shoot that I've been able to dredge up online, but this is another appealing digital capture, though I'm uncertain as to whether this had a 2K or 4K DI. Detail levels are typically excellent throughout, ranging from Jackie's somewhat weathered looking face to the CGI fur on Hu Hu. There's a patent artificiality to a lot of the production design, but within that context detail levels are nice looking throughout. The palette is very nicely suffused, especially in outdoor moments. There are some blue graded night scenes and a couple of other dimly lit moments that are on the murky side without much in the way of shadow detail.

Panda Plan: The Magical Tribe features DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks in either Mandarin or English. I'd frankly stick with the original Mandarin, as the dubbing (which sounds to me like it used Jackie) is pretty lackluster both in terms of matching lip movements but even lining up (so to speak) with the English subtitles for the Mandarin version, which suggests a few things might have gotten "lost in translation". One way or the other, though, both tracks provide a really nicely immersive experience, aided by a lot of fun music especially in some of the tribal interactions. Dialogue (and occasional panda noises) are offered cleanly and clearly throughout. Optional English and French subtitles are available.

Arguably the most charming thing about this sequel is the use of sweet animations during the opening and closing credits. My hunch is even many diehard Jackie Chan fans will not be won over by the forced performances of several supporting players (and maybe even Jackie himself), in a plot that is absurd even by the admittedly low bar the first Panda Plan offered. On the plus side, this looks and sounds great, for anyone who may be considering making a purchase.
