Mad Max 5-Film Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Once more into the desert.

Reviewed by Randy Miller III October 24, 2025

Released after their DigiPack edition went out-of-print, Warner Bros.' recent keepcase edition of the Mad Max 5-Film Collection is a more practically-packaged effort that easily launches past the earlier Mad Max Anthology (made before the fifth film, 2024's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, arrived), a four-disc set that was initially recalled and fixed after a few audio issues were discovered. In addition to including Furiosa, this eight-disc set also boasts a few thoughtful pack-in bonuses including the "Black and Chrome" versions of Mad Max Fury Road (on Blu-ray, at least) and Furiosa (in full 4K and exclusive to the collection), as well as a bonus Blu-ray with previously missing or lesser-seen extras including The Madness of Max, a nearly four-hour documentary otherwise only available on DVD via Warner Archive. So while several notable legacy bonus features from other studio releases aren't included and we still don't get all the Blu-ray copies for whatever reason, this is nonetheless a fairly complete effort and a pretty great value for the price.

Mad Max 5-Film Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

This eight-disc set ships in a chunky, multi-hinged keepcase with text-heavy cover artwork, a matching matte-finish slipcover, and Digital Copy codes for the five full-color films. The extras are fairly numerous but woefully disorganized because many were authored to Blu-ray and thus do not appear on the 4K discs. (Several are still missing, including at least one audio commentary, a few featurettes, and the theatrical trailers.) That said, the following disc-by-disc breakdown should help; most are listed by name only, but more details can be found in the linked reviews.

DISC TWO - The Road Warrior 4K

  • Road War: The Making of "The Road Warrior" (48:53)

  • Introduction by Leonard Maltin (3:37)

  • Audio Commentary with director George Miller and cinematographer Dean Semler

DISC FIVE - Mad Max: Fury Road - Black & Chrome Edition Blu-ray

  • Introduction by George Miller (1:37)

DISC SIX - Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 4K

  • Highway to Valhalla: In Pursuit of Furiosa (57:00)

  • Darkest Angel: Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa (10:19)

  • Motorbike Messiah: Chris Hemsworth as Dementus (10:02)

  • Furiosa: Stowaway to Nowhere (11:13)

  • Metal Beasts & Holy Motors (14:42)

DISC SEVEN - Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - Black & Chrome Edition 4K

  • Introduction by George Miller (0:38)

  • Identical extras from Disc Six

DISC EIGHT - Bonus disc, includes extras from Mad Max and Mad Max: Fury Road, plus a surprise.

Mad Max

  • Mad Max: The Film Phenomenon (25:35)

  • The Madness of Max (2:36:50) - Previously released on DVD from Warner Archive as a stand-alone feature, this exhaustive 2015 behind-the-scenes documentary covers just about everything you'd want to know about the original 1979 film. Written and directed by Gary McFeat and Tim Ridge with appearances by dozens of cast and crew members, Madness is divided into 20 chapters and might as well be the secret eighth film in this collection. Needless to say, it's a nice surprise and a must-see. The only catch? It's in upscaled standard def with noticeable aliasing and other visual anomalies... and while I'm not sure what this documentary's native resolution is, you'd think a documentary released in the last 10 years would at least look a little better than it does here.

Mad Max: Fury Road

  • The Tools of the Wasteland (14:24)

  • The Road Warriors: Max and Furiosa (11:16)

  • Mad Max: Fury on Four Wheels (22:35)

  • Maximum Fury: Filming Fury Road (28:36)

  • Fury Road: Crash & Smash (4:00)

  • The Five Wives: So Shiny, So Chrome (11:09)

  • Deleted Scenes (3 clips, 3:16 total)

Mad Max 5-Film Collection 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.5 of 5

A substantial upgrade from the flawed Mad Max Anthology, WB's Mad Max 5-Film Collection includes what it says as well as a Blu-ray copy of Mad Max: Fury Road - Black & Chrome Edition, an exclusive 4K copy of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - Black & Chrome Edition, and a bonus disc with previously missing extras and a 2015 documentary. It's a no-brainer unless you own most of all of them already and thus comes Recommended to the right crowd.
