Godzilla/Kong Monsterverse Blu-ray Movie Review

When worlds collide.

Reviewed by Randy Miller III May 18, 2025

Quietly released nine months after the user-unfriendly DigiPack edition, Warner Bros. finally offers a more practical keepcase edition of their Godzilla/Kong Monsterverse 5-Film Collection with all of the franchise films released between 2014-2024 in 4K UHD. As before, no Blu-ray copies of the films are included and a sixth bonus disc herds together non-commentary extras from all five films as well as three exclusive extras. Taking up only a little more shelf space than a standard 4K case, it's a compact and fairly inexpensive way to get everything from everywhere, all at once.

For separate synopses of all five included films, please see their respective reviews below:

Godzilla/Kong Monsterverse Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  4.0 of 5

This six-disc set ships in a slightly thicker-than-normal keepcase with multiple hinges to ensure each disc gets its own hub; this is a big step up from the DigiPack edition, which used annoying sleeves. A Digital Copy slip is tucked inside, but this may or may not come with a matching slipcover. (Mine didn't, but maybe you'll get lucky.)

As for the extras, that's a bit more complicated. Most of them can be found on the sixth bonus disc, a dual-layered Blu-ray that herds together everything found on the older Blu-ray editions of Godzilla 2014, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as three new bonus features covered below.

  • NEW! Directors of the Monsterverse (48:58) - Undoubtedly the centerpiece of the new extras, this recent roundtable interview with directors Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island), Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong), Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), and Michael Dougherty (Godzilla: King of the Monsters) was recorded on Stage 11 at WB Studios. As expected, it's a very casual and candid group chat that finds all four filmmakers in good spirits as they discuss their shared love of the franchise, their different approaches to the material, favorite moments (from their own films and each other's), stories from the set, and more.

  • NEW! Enter the Monsterverse (4:52) - A comparatively much shorter and less essential piece, this one simply plays like an abridged supercut of all five movie trailers. Um, we already bought them all?

  • NEW! The Beasts Who Would Be King: Godzilla's Foes (15:41) - A collection of interviews with cast and crew members from all five films, as well as a few other industry professionals. Obviously the main talking point is the assortment of foes faced by Godzilla during these films, which means it's loaded with supportive clips. I'd have loved to see footage from older franchise entries for added historical flavor, but no such luck.

Three of the four 4K movie discs -- Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong -- also have carried-over audio commentary tracks. (Godzilla 2014 never had one, as far as I know.)

So what about poor Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire? Don't worry: all of its legacy extras, including an audio commentary, can be found on the 4K movie disc. Why, you ask? Well, it was produced after Warner Bros. stopped releasing combo packs and put extras on both formats to save a few bucks or whatever. Confusing, ain't it?

Godzilla/Kong Monsterverse Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.0 of 5

The separate universes of Godzilla and King Kong, at least in the films released since 2014 from Legendary Pictures, are now apparently joined at the hip and it's never been more evident than when watching everything back-to-back. That's exactly what you can do with WB's Godzilla/Kong Monsterverse 5-Film Collection, which was first released last year in a somewhat clumsily designed DigiPack edition but is now available in a cheaper and more practical keepcase format. Featuring all five films in UHD and all of the legacy extras (one way or another) plus a few new ones, the only caveat here is that you don't get any Blu-ray copies. But if you've yet to upgrade most or all of 'em, this space-saving collection is pretty much a no-brainer... even if we all know more films will eventually be coming.
