Giallo of course means "yellow" in Italian, and any good Italian horror fan can tell you the genesis of the term vis a vis its use for this (sub?)genre of film. Arrow Video has long been curating a number of gialli, and they have aggregated six relatively recent releases in two new sets. Arrow is offering the sets with two different packaging options, a red one, and this appropriately yellow one. This review will describe the packaging while offering links to what is included in the packaging. I'm including a couple of pictures of the red edition (with different films) in this review for quick comparison purposes.

Video quality of each film is assessed in the above linked reviews.

Supplements included on each disc are detailed in the above linked reviews. Perhaps because this release offers a more "diverse" set of images on its cover, it may not instantly strike collectors as being as memorable as the red release (seen in pictures 6 and 7 in this review, as well as all of the pictures accompanying the link to that release above). This offers a kind of "fractured" ambience that suggests shattered glass, and some of the images tend to emphasize some of the seedier aspects of the films in this set. As with the red release, the slipcover has what amounts to an "o ring" which reveals some but not all of the actual cover imagery.

As with the red set, the three films in this set may not be the best remembered gialli of all time, but they each have definite things to recommend them, and as tends to be the case with Arrow releases, technical merits are generally solid and the supplementary packages very enjoyable. Of the two editions Arrow is releasing of various gialli, fans of dramatic cover art may prefer the red one. Recommended.
