Paramount has released an eight-film 'Friday the 13th' collection to Blu-ray in collectible SteelBook packaging. It follows hot on the heels of the studio's six-disc, eight-film collection released in August 2021 and the superb Shout! Factory collection, which is home to more films, more supplements, more cuts, a proper 3-D release for the third film, and better packaging. While this set includes the first four films in the series with remastered 1080p video, the transfers are all but identical to the Shout! counterparts with the exception of a minor shift in aspect ratio for parts I, II, and IV. The final four films appear two per disc and seemingly identical to how they were released in 2013 in Warner Brothers' eight-film metal tin. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Paramount's glossy-smooth SteelBook will show some handling fingerprints. The front panel features a gray-to-black background with slasher Jason
center, masked, holding a machete across his chest. The franchise title appears both behind and in front of him in white-gray letters filling much of
the
front panel space. The words "8 Movie Collection" appear scrawled in blood red at the bottom. All text is slightly angled. The rear panel features the
same steely gray-to-black background with a full body image of Jason standing facing forward, again masked, with the machete hanging down at his
side. A blood splatter runs across the middle portion. A studio logo, a model number, and legalese appear bottom right and center. The spine is black
with the film's title in white and the red text "8 Movie Collection" in red, both center. Barely visible Paramount and Blu-ray logos appear at the top
and
bottom, respectively.
Inside, the six discs are stacked directly one atop another on center hubs, three per side. The inner print below them features a collage of posters
from each film in this
collection. They are all blood red with no other coloring. Some are larger than others and there appears to be no real structure as to which has been
placed where. Digital copy sheets can be found outside the package under the cellophane along with a collection of eight cards that feature the same
poster art on one side and a picture of Jason from that film on the other.

It feels a little disingenuous to release the SteelBook just two months after the regular packaging release, particularly with nothing new inside. As it is, the SteelBook is very nice looking if not a little unimaginatively designed on its exterior. The blood-red poster artwork inside is nice, as are the collectible cards for each film. Recommended to packaging collectors and anyone who didn't buy Paramount's last release. That said, the Shout! collection still takes the cake.
