Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Justin Dekker June 6, 2024

'Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy 4K' returns to UHD in this 7-disc collection courtesy of Universal. One UHD 4K disc is included for each film, all of which include impressive Dolby Vision color grading and terrific Dolby Atmos audio tracks. A Blu-ray copy of each film is included as well, each on its own disc, but these, again retain the English HD-Master Audio 5.1 rather than upgrading to the Dolby Atmos track. Each film brings with it an impressive array of supplemental material, with all content carried over from the previous release including the bonus Blu-ray disc consisting of material that was new and unique to the 2020 'Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy 4K'. The major difference between that set and this new one is that while the previous set featured Digibook packaging, this new 2024 set utilizes the more durable keep cases housed in a sturdy, embossed slipbox. A Digital Code for all three films is also included.

For a discussion and appreciation of each of the films included here, please follow this link to my colleague Jeffrey Kaufman's review of the films from 2010.

Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  5.0 of 5

The Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy 4K features a complete collection of all of the special features from the Back to the Future releases that have come before. For a comprehensive listing of the on-disc supplemental material, please follow the links below.

For a discussion of the supplemental material outline above, please follow this link. Please note, however, that all BD Live, D-Box, and pocketBLU enabled elements seem to have been deleted for this release.

For a discussion of the material included on the bonus Blu-ray disc housed in the case with Back to the Future Part III, please follow the links here for the included material from the Back to the Future 30th Anniversary Bonus Disc and here for the material from the 2020 Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy 4K release.

Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  4.5 of 5

Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy 4K features the same incredible UHD transfers of these enduring and beloved films and all associated supplemental material from the 2020 release with one noteworthy change; the Digibook packaging has been exchanged for the vastly superior keep cases. I know Digibook packaging has its fans and it affords studios the opportunity to get more creative with the look of their releases, but the greater durability and, should the worst happen, replaceability of keep cases is much more important to me. Fans of the films buying them for the first time or who have yet to upgrade the films to UHD would be well-served in doing so with this release. This iconic trilogy has never looked or sounded better than it does here and this set comes Highly Recommended.
