Baby Assassins 3 Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Jeffrey Kauffman August 11, 2025

Note: Blu-ray consumers may have noticed that Well Go USA has moved largely into offering only MOD "burnt" discs, but to allay any potential fears, I can confirm that this is a pressed Blu-ray.

For perhaps peculiar reasons probably known only to marketing "geniuses", someone dropped the Nice Days subtitle from the Blu-ray release of this third outing of Baby Assassins features, losing another kind of sly winking joke that this franchise seems to delight in offering its fans. Of course a "nice day" for most would not involve relentless mayhem, gunfire and blood letting, but most folks are not Chisato (Akari Takaishi) and Mahiro (Saori Izawa), the titular hitwomen of the series. Anyone who has seen either of the proceeding two Baby Assassins will probably know exactly what they're going to get with this third entry, and maybe just a little surprisingly, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Once again this franchise displays an almost whipsaw quality which ping pongs between ultra dry humor and John Wick-ian "hit" scenes.

Not that not having seen the previous installments will seriously impact an ability to understand this film, those interested can catch up on what's happened thus far in the series courtesy of the following reviews:

Baby Assassins 2 Blu-ray review

It may be only a slight exaggeration to suggest that reading those above linked reviews (especially of the second film) will more or less describe this film to a tee. There is arguably a bit darker undertone this time out, mostly courtesy of an especially troublesome villain, Kaede Fuyumura (Sôsuke Ikematsu), but once again this "odd couple" is forced to pair with another duo (much as in the second film), Iruka Minami (Atsuko Maeda) and Riku Nanase ( Mondo Otani). I'm frankly not sure the somewhat more somber approach to at least parts of this narrative really blends all that well with the franchise's black humor stock in trade, but again somewhat surprisingly Baby Assassins 3 (by any other name) still delivers some well choreographed actions sequences and intentionally arch banter between its (anti?) protagonists.

Baby Assassins 3 Blu-ray Movie, Video Quality  4.5 of 5

Baby Assassins 3 is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Well Go USA with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 2.39:1. As of the writing of this review the IMDb has no technical information available, but this is a really appealing digital capture that has all of the positives I mentioned in our Baby Assassins 2 Blu-ray review (that film frankly surprised me with its video quality considering it seemed to be geared mostly toward Well Go USA's Hi Yah streaming audiences). Once again the palette is virtually explosive at times, especially in the glut of outdoor material (the focal characters begin the film on vacation at the ocean). Detail levels on practical sets and costumes is typically excellent.

Baby Assassins 3 Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.5 of 5

Once again much like the second film in particular, Baby Assassins 3 has a really nicely immersive DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. While the gonzo action scenes probably provide the showiest engagement of the side and rear channels, there is really good surround activity even in some of the seemingly less "violent" scenes, as in some of the oceanside material in the early going. As with both of the proceeding two films the track can be almost overwhelmingly noisy at times, but effects are well prioritized and perhaps unexpectedly dialogue is delivered cleanly and clearly throughout. Optional English subtitles are available.

Baby Assassins 3 Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  0.5 of 5

  • Trailer (HD; 2:01)
Note: As tends to be the case with Well Go USA Blu-ray releases, the disc has been authored to automatically move on to trailers for other Well Go USA releases after the trailer for this film plays. Those trailers for other Well Go USA releases also play automatically at disc boot up.

Packaging features a slipcover.

Baby Assassins 3 Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

Well, we're well underway to what I jokingly predicted might be an ultimate Baby Assassins 200, but the good news is the energy of this franchise remains largely intact, while the creatives both in front of and behind the camera are evidently attempting to inject a bit more darkness into the almost comic book ambience of the series. Technical merits are solid. Recommended.
